Monkeys & Malaysian Markets

Next stop was Kuala Lumpur. We arrived pretty jetlagged so took a nap for a couple of hours, which turned into more than we'd expected! Ah well! Since it was late in the evening when we woke up, we decided to head over to a night market for some food! We went to the Jalan Alone market and had some of the best noodles, meat, rice, mango smoothies, all sorts of Asian stuff! It was awesome, I think we sat down to eat at about midnight and there was still plenty of hustle and bustle going on - awesome. We bought Emre some toy airplanes and he kept occupied by spinning them to see who would be the winner with the plane pointing to them!

The next day we woke up quite late and headed over to Batu Caves, which involved climbing a lot of steep stairs and entering into a cave/temple and seeing a load of shrines - except most were under construction/renovation. It was quite cool though, but unfortunately we know nothing of the history and culture, etc, which is a bad move on our part!

We later headed back in the heat to the center of the city again, strolling around a place called Centre Market and then eating food on the street again at a place called Petaling street which was very busy and quite fun with a load of knock off stuff for sale, but we didn't like it as much as the food and market from the night before! Still, the food was good and we enjoyed wandering around!

Lastly, we ended up at KLCC park right next to Petronas Towers, a beautiful and immaculate park with amazing views of the towers and other huge buildings 360 degrees around us. We took a bunch of photos, walked through the mall, and then headed back home.

I (Alastair) went on a 10km run after getting the family back to the Airbnb and headed right back to the area around the towers. It was really hot, and I ended up very sweaty but really enjoyed the run. I remember thinking how cool it was that Kuala Lumpur was super safe to run around even at night, then I debated whether I'd made that up or confused it with Singapore. Either way, all was well, even when going through parts of the city that definitely were not as upscale as the main downtown part!
