Tokyo

Let's start by mentioning the delicious sushi. Actually before that: it wasn't super easy to find a hotel in Tokyo. We kind of left it late and so in the end we booked a "love hotel." It was interesting. When you arrived to check in, there was frosted glass hiding your face from the hotel staff. I'm sure lots of the people that go there don't want to be seen. Kind of odd. Anyways. The room looked nice. It was pretty normal apart from the lights control panel by the side of the bed, and the box of condoms on the side table. Very convenient.

Anyways, back to the sushi. We went to Tsukiji fish market to look around, and ended up in a restaurant with a revolving conveyer going round with plates of sushi. Before this trip I'd only ever had California rolls and things like that, but I was anxious to try more. I absolutely loved it. Without knowing the difference, I just felt that this sushi was fresh... Whatever that means. Lain on the other hand didn't enjoy it quite as much, but she did keep it down!

One of the first things we did in Tokyo was visit the Google office, which turned out to be a good choice as the view from the office on the 44th floor was amazing. We got there as the sun was about to go down, and watched as the sky got darker and the buildings got lighter. It was really great, a wonderful view!

We went to Harajuku to see what all the fuss was about. It was fun, I got some clothes. We also ate at the monster cafe. That was kind of interesting! Definitely an experience. The food was average but the decorations and the show that we saw while there were off the wall for sure. Super odd but really fun! We saw people in costume dancing around, supposedly called monsters but who knows what they really were! Overall, definitely worthwhile!

One of the highlights from Tokyo was Shibuya Crossing. It is the largest or busiest pedestrian crossing in the world, surrounded by lights and billboards like Times Square or Piccadilly Circus. It was cool to see people like ants pouring across the road in every direction. It's funny how something as simple as a big crosswalk can be so famous and so fun! It was just great to be there and experience something like that.

Some other misc things that we did: walking around the imperial palace gardens, which were quite nice, and visiting the Senso-Ji temple. Really nice sights. We spent a lot of time on the subway and walking around, which is a lot of fun in and of itself.

Tokyo really is huge! It was amazing to see from our hotel or from the Google office how the city just keeps on going. It was great. Definitely one of the coolest cities in the world.
