A Visit From Grandma

Fresh from the news of their upcoming move to Utah, and as a complete surprise from Emre's grandad, grandma was able to come and visit and meet her first grandson for the first time! We were really excited to introduce our son to his grandma, and after a bit of airport drama, the meeting took place!

After meeting up with Alastair after work, we showed grandma around Ann Arbor and ate at Zingermans, a local highlight.

The next day was Friday, which meant that it was time for Emre to cross his first international border! We planned a road trip for the weekend, with a stop in Toronto for the night. The drive there wasn't bad, just seemingly long after Alastair's day at work.

The next morning started early as we headed downtown Toronto to take a ferry out to Centre Island. The view of the Toronto skyline was great, even if we did have to enjoy it while changing a stinky little boy. We enjoyed our short time in Toronto, where Emre got to take his first boat trip! But there was more to come, as shall be revealed in the next paragraph.

We braved the traffic and drove down to Niagara Falls. We should mention that the weather was great, a little on the hot side, but really nice. After admiring the falls from up high, we headed on down to the Hornblower boat, Canada's new version of the Maid of the Mist. You better believe we took Emre on there, but the true child at heart was grandma, who took off her shoes and went deep into the wet spray and had a blast! We stood on the inside of the boat and watched grandma have the time of her life under the falls! We had dinner with some of Alastair's favorite people from Buffalo, NY, and headed towards Ohio, where we'd be the next day.

The next day was spent in Ohio, where we visited some church sites. It was great to be back in the Kirtland temple, especially to see grandma as she saw it for the first time. This was a lifelong dream for her! During the tour, the guide asked if there were any choir directors in the audience, and of course, grandma's hand went straight in the air. That was fun to see.

All in all, it was a great weekend, with a big loop around Lake Erie!
