The Next Big Thing

When it rains, it pours, and for us when life changes, it really changes. Not even six weeks on from the birth of our son, the three of us spent three days on I-80 heading out to Ann Arbor, Michigan. The thought of leaving Utah was a little more difficult to swallow than we expected. We had just started our little family, I had a great job with Qualtrics, our ward was wonderful, and we absolutely loved our place in Lindon. Spring was in full swing, and we were walking out on the trails every day in the sun after I got home from work. But we love adventure, and knew that our time in Utah had to be up in order to pursue a better opportunity for our family and our future.

We drove and drove and drove, leaving on Friday afternoon and arriving in Michigan on Sunday afternoon. We stopped to sleep, refuel, eat, and feed little Emre. We can't believe how easy it was, moving with a baby. Emre slept pretty much the whole time. He loves being in the car and traveling. It is staying still that he has trouble with! Kind of like his parents, I guess. My big goal for the trip was to get from our place in Lindon to our new place in Ypsilanti/Pittsfield Township without a map. I memorized our route, and arrived without a single mistake! It was pretty easy though, finding your way from A to B in the USA is surprisingly simple.

Anyway, we arrived and moved in to our place. We are still waiting for all of our things to be delivered by the moving company, so we have been back and forth to IKEA, putting furniture together, and sitting on the floor in the living room for the past few days.

Michigan seems cool. There is an insane number of Fords on the road. So far, we have seen a record of five in a row. Looking to beat that soon. To be fair, because of the cold at the end of the winter, the roads are awful. There are trees everywhere, which I love. It reminds us of Seattle, in a way.

The day after we arrived, I took Lain and Emre into Ann Arbor and we ate at Zingermans, which is supposedly the thing to do. I ate there when I came out for my interview. Laleinia loved it. She can't wait to go back.

One interesting thing that I am enjoying a lot is that everyone is head over heels in love with Emre. Back in Utah, everyone has a baby, and so it seems like nobody even bats an eyelid when you are carrying your baby. Understandably so. But out here in Michigan it seems like everyone is looking at Emre, commenting on how cute he is, asking how old he is, and making "aaaah, ooooh" type noises. It is really fun! It makes me so happy to see how much attention he gets!
