Sun City

Before Logan heads off to Rexburg for university, we went on one more McKee family outing. We spent the day on Segways and at the swimming pool in Sun City, a massive resort about two hours away from Johannesburg. The weather was fantastic, and we came home a little sunburnt, but had an incredible day in one of the most beautiful valleys that we have ever seen.

We began the day with Segway training, which was more of getting a feel for the thing than it was learning about it. It was pretty simple, push down with your toes to go forwards, and with your heels to stop or go backwards. After about three or four minutes of that, we were ready to get going!

Segways are really interesting things, and the whole time we were on them we were just amazed at how they were standing upright. Our guide set the speed and when you tried to go too fast, it would almost tip you off the back. I (Alastair) tried to see what kind of limits I could push, and tried to skid in some of the sandy dirt at the side of the path. Well, I did skid, but I also learned a lesson. You can't lock up the wheels and skid on a Segway without falling off! I ended up hitting the deck and having to pull my Segway out of the bushes! Our guide didn't seem too pleased as he reset the machine for me and told me it wasn't made for off-road.

Riding the Segways was a great new experience for us, however it wasn't everyone's first rodeo. The rest of the family came a few weeks ago, and loved it so much that they wanted to come back, and we are glad they did. We ended up getting one of the best family photos of all time in our matching helmets!

After our two-wheeled adventure, we headed over to the swimming pools. We spent most of the day swimming in and relaxing by a large, round pool, but also headed over to a huge wave pool (which was packed with hundreds of people), slides, and a lazy river. Laleinia particularly enjoyed drinking virgin daiquiris and splashing around with Hollie, as I went on a couple of slides with Logan and Connor. What a great day!
