Kelly Canyon

We have always wanted to Ski, and living in Idaho gives us a pretty good chance to do that! Last weekend we tried Alpine Skiing, which was one of the funnest things that we have ever done. We picked it up pretty quickly, and graduated from the slopes to the bunny hill within a couple of runs. Apart from almost tearing a leg off, and being inches away from certain death, we had a great time, and can't wait to go again.

This weekend, we rented some cross-country skis, reserved a Yurt in the middle of the forest, and got to work! We finally got to Kelly Canyon in the evening, and with the help of a map, navigated our way down Logging Rd. It seemed to go on forever, and we definitely over-dressed as we were sweating in our coats! The Yurt was about two and a half miles away from our cars, which was long enough, considering the trip came at the end of a long week!

Laleinia took to cross-country skiing like a duck takes to water. Every time I turned around to look at her, it was like watching the Winter Olympics! Lain probably only fell over once or twice (and once was Chris' fault), whereas I fell who knows how many times, at least eight or nine.

We stayed in a Yurt that was provided for by the Idaho Falls Ski Club. It had two cot beds, a wood fire, propane stove, propane lanterns and tables and chairs. Kip and I chopped some wood, and had ourselves a man challenge (which I lost).

The next morning, we headed back down the trail, this time able to see all of the scenery of the Targhee forest. Within the last two weeks, we have managed to check off two of our bucket list items for 2013. We definitely prefer alpine skiing to cross-country, but we really loved the trip!
