Close to Home in Yellowstone

Well first of all it was nice to be back on the road with a chance of seeing something interesting together. What made it even better was being in our new car! We are getting rid of Burberry (the Land Rover) because we can't justify the lack of fuel economy any longer. We'll buy another Land Rover some day when we have tons of money!

Back on the road.
Anyways, we were smiling all the way there because we knew we were getting way better miles per gallon in the new car (which is yet to be named) than the old one. Living in Rexburg we are so close to Yellowstone. We really should go more often!

First time in Montana together.
We drove through and stopped quickly in West Yellowstone, a small town in the south-west corner of Montana, from which we entered Yellowstone national park. Good job we brought our own food since it was about $20 for food in that town!

Alastair's first trip to Yellowstone
Alastair had never been to Yellowstone, which is one of Laleinia's favorite places to visit. We hoped to see some wildlife and the famous "Old Faithful" geyser.

Elk
It wasn't long before we saw a lot of Elk down by a river. After a while we saw our first of only two big Elk with all the antlers and stuff. It made Alastair want to take up bow hunting, until Laleinia reminded him that it wouldn't be too easy to bring one home if you did end up getting one. They aren't the smallest animals by any means!

Geyser
Here we are by the first geysers that we came across. Geysers are like natural aqueous fireworks that smell really bad but look really cool. They steam a lot and every once in a while they erupt, shooting water in the air. They were really interesting, especially for Alastair since he'd never seen them before.

Steam from Geyser
And of course Lain looked beautiful as she overlooked some really blue water from a Geyser. Supposedly the water in there is really hot, and you get fined $5,000 if you throw something in there. So we didn't.

Lain
The next thing on our list was to see what Alastair calls Buffalo, but Lain calls Bison. Laleinia read the definition in the Yellowstone guidebook pamphlet, and continued to tell Alastair that they were indeed Bison, but that didn't change Alastair's mind about the beautiful Buffalo he saw around the park.

Herd of Buffalo/Bison
After waiting around in the chilly Wyoming weather and trying to guesstimate when the thing would go off, finally Alastair and Laleinia got to see Old Faithful erupt. It was pretty cool, water and steam shooting really high in the air. It was one of those "Yes... we've been there and done that!" moments that people live for.

Young Faithful meets Old Faithful
The nicest thing about going to Yellowstone was that we could get away and have fun together, after being so busy with work, school and football. It is so important to just have fun and make memories often, and we feel like we are trying to make the most of the opportunities we have to do that.
